Holiday Driving Tips to Avoid an Auto Collision

Holiday Driving Tips to Avoid an Auto Collision

It’s essential to keep your safety in mind during this busy time of year.

The holiday season is here, and before you begin your last-minute Christmas shopping, you must ensure your car is safe for holiday driving. You’ll more than likely be spending a few hours driving around, whether it’s looking for the perfect presents or visiting some old family or friends. It’s essential to keep your safety in mind during this busy time of year. Here are a handful of safety tips that will ensure your safety and make your holiday trip an experience to remember.

Trust the Speed Limit

As the holidays draw close, more and more people are out driving on the roads, frantic to finish up their holiday shopping. Because of this, the highway patrol controls the traffic by setting up some speed traps. These limits are for your safety and its important that you follow them. Speeding, especially if there are snow and ice on the roads, can lead to an auto collision and put a damper on your holiday.

No Liquor OR Eggnog Before Driving

Christmas is the season for one of the festive drinks ever – eggnog, but this is no excuse to drive drunk. A fun family dinner or office Christmas party calls for a drink or two, but make sure you don’t get behind the wheel afterward. Ubers or designated drivers will help you avoid a dangerous auto collision.

Maintain Your Vehicle

Before you leave on your long ride towards your family, make sure your car is in ideal shape. Check the lights, windshield wipers, tires, and fluid levels before you start the long journey. The last thing you need is your car breaking down in the middle of a road trip.

Catch Up on Some Sleep

We know you must be eager to see your family and friends for the holidays, but not getting enough sleep is dangerous. If you’re sleep-deprived, it can affect your motor skills as well as your reaction time. Not to mention, falling asleep behind your wheel can lead right into an auto collision. Make sleep a priority before driving, and drive with a partner to take turns driving if you’re feeling a bit tired.

Be Prepared

Just a general rule of thumb, be prepared for the worst. Make sure you have an emergency roadside kit in your car, have maps or your GPS ready, and a spare tire available just in case.
