6 Facts to Know From Your Collision Repair Shop

Collision Repair Shop

Make sure you’re on the same page with your collision repair shop with these six major points.

After an accident, you’re likely going to want to get your vehicle repaired as soon as possible. Many of us rely on our cars to get us to and from work, school, or other obligations, so it’s no wonder that there’s an associated sense of urgency. Taking your vehicle to a reputable auto collision repair shop ought to be a priority as well though, as you want to make sure the job gets done with a level of professionalism and expediency that reflects your investment in their services. Before letting an auto collision repair shop take your car off of your hands for repairs, be sure to ask them these major questions.

1. Any Warranty?

Not all shops offer a warranty on their repairs, but if they do, be sure to find out whatever it covers and how long that will last. Every shop is going to vary in what they’re willing to offer you, so finding something that works for you and makes you feel comfortable with the work being done is a priority.

2. What About Rental Cars?

If you need a car for a brief period of time, you’re going to want to inquire about rentals, loaners, or courtesy cars while yours ends up being repaired. Sometimes a shop has their own rental facility or at least can refer you to somewhere that can lend you a car until yours is fully repaired.

3. What’s the ETA?

There are a number of factors that influence how long a repair from your chosen collision repair shop will take, including the extent of the damage, how busy the shop is, anything that may impact their hours like holidays, and how quickly the necessary parts can be obtained. That said, you want to get some kind of estimate on how long a repair is going to take.

4. Will Paint Be Consistent?

Your car likely has a paint code somewhere on it, typically under the hood, in the door, or in the trunk of your vehicle. This lets the collision repair shop know what color to use, so make sure they can match the color exactly to what is original.

5. What Certifications Do You Have?

If a shop isn’t certified, that’s a red flag. You want to make sure that any collision repair shop you work with has the right certifications to back up the work they perform, which can help protect you in the event that anything goes wrong.

6. Can You Put That in Writing?

Finally, you’re going to want a written estimate before work begins. After the job is completed, you also want an itemized bill so you know exactly what you paid for. Payment policies should outline materials, guarantees, forms of payment, labor rates, and other pertinent info to your repair.
