Look for these indicators that a collision repair shop does quality work by honest people.

Sometimes it seems for every positive auto shop experience you hear about, there are a dozen more negative stories about where they were left unclear on details or felt misled about what they were paying for. As a result, it can make the process of finding the right collision repair shop—especially in the hectic aftermath of an accident—a difficult process filled with headaches and questions that aren’t always easy to answer for. Here at Liberty Collision, we want to make the steps to finding a quality collision repair shop easy, which is why we’ve come up with four signs that you’re talking to the right experts.  

1. Will They Answer Your Questions?

Much of the lingo within the auto industry can be confusing and at times, completely overwhelming. If an auto repair shop seems dodgy about answering your questions or explaining what something means to you, this is a big red flag. On the other hand, some good signs include taking the time to explain concepts, letting you walk through their repair bay and see what needs to be done, or even just guaranteeing that you will be informed and asked for consent before any additional work is done.

2. Are They Honest About Limitations?

Collision repair shops specialize in exactly that and many auto shops out there have their specialty. Not everyone can be a jack-of-all-trades and that’s a good thing, it means that you know you’re going to an expert who has specifically worked with your problem before. However, if a shop presents themselves as being able and willing to do just about everything in the book, that could be an indicator that they’re being dishonest about something. Every shop has its limitations.

3. What is Their Public Reputation?

Take some time to do some research online and look at customer reviews. You may also want to reach out to friends and family to see if they have recommendations for places that have treated them well in the past. Taking a look at the Better Business Bureau or the American Automobile Association are also good ways of learning what a businesses’ reputation is.

4. How Do They Handle Estimates and Warranties?

Not every quality shop offers a warranty on their work or provides a written estimate up front. While neither of these things are a complete dealbreaker, they can be a good indicator of a shop’s attitudes. If you get a written estimate, ask about any other costs that may not show up and don’t be afraid to ask for a breakdown of how they got to the estimate. When it comes to warranties, some shops provide these in writing and for a specific time frame or mileage count. Both warranties and estimates can be a big benefit for consumers at times.
